This morning I had the absolute joy of having brunch at JAM in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. I jumped on the CTA Blue Line to the Logan Square ‘L’ stop and walked a couple of blocks south and east to JAM which is located conveniently next to the Logan Square Farmers Market (open through the end of October). I love the Logan Square neighborhood, so I will be blogging about it quite a bit.

JAM is set in a very cute building off of the Logan Square Park. It is picture-postcard cute with a decor that is a combination of pretty, graceful, ornate, modern and classic. The space opens out onto an intimate and cozy sidewalk patio which is lined with pretty flower boxes. I have been wanting to visit JAM for a while now, since I have heard nothing but wonderful tales of breakfast/lunch/brunch. JAM did not disappoint!
The menu items all looked so delicious that I had a difficult time choosing. However, I decided to try to oh-so different quiche option which I understand is Chef Jeffrey Mauro’s favorite item on the menu. The quiche consisted of lemon-cured lake trout with a panzanella salad of pickled red onions, small cubes of salmon and bagel chips. It arrived in a pretty, deep, white bowl. The quiche was cut into 2 square slices. It was served along side the panzanella salad. This was a light, yet flavorful brunch option to the other delicious and decadent menu items. It was just the right amount of food for me today as I was a very bad girl yesterday!
My friend, Barb, chose the Malted Custard French Toast which was accompanied by macerated cherries and lime leaf cream with pink peppercorns. The thing that makes JAM’s french toast one of the best I have ever tasted is that the custard component makes the toast so incredibly moist. The cherries and cream were a perfect and light match for the toast. And, it was wonderful not to need an addition of syrup on this dish.
While I did not have any brunch cocktails today, I did peruse the beverage menu and it looks quite yummy and refreshing. Catch you next time, JAM cocktails!
Another great thing about JAM is that it is one of the very few brunch spots in Chicago that opens before 8:30am. It is open from 7am – 3pm everyday, except Wednesday when it is closed. They begin serving the lunch items at 11am.
As mentioned earlier, Chef Jeffrey Mauro is the Executive Chef at JAM and the restaurant has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2013 and 2014.
Although I did not dine solo at JAM today, I will have no qualms about returning for breakfast or lunch by myself, as this tiny, tasty and super friendly treasure will fuel me up for any errands or shenanigans in this Logan Square neighborhood 😉

In keeping with the spirit of Feeding Off The Rails, I encourage you to leave your car at home and take the CTA Blue Line to JAM. Save gas money. Avoid traffic, road rage and parking. Reduce pollution. Don’t drink and drive!
